Random thoughts from 1995.
So many times, I've looked back and thought, "Wow - I'm so much more mature now than I was back then." Now, the fact that this keeps happening leads me to assume that, empirically speaking, it will continue to happen ad infinitum until I am on my deathbed. This is something I'm glad about. This is a reason to look forward to growing old.

I want to throw sea cucumbers at you in Guam.

On Kevin, August 1996.
It's as if you soak up experiences through the space between them, through the lingering scent in the air. The actuality passes right by you - unfazed; you pause at its close as a soft wind veers from its westward course to stroke your cheek, and whisper a secret it keeps just for you. You bundle them up, hold them aside for later. The set of your jaw gives you away, the memory of a crease across your forehead. Crooked knots of kinetic energy shimmy as your fingers beat rhythm on your knee. You are larger now, taller and wider. You occupy more space, extra dimensions not yet known to science. You are not a textbook case. You are not an illustrated example. You are every generation of your rare species, and someday you will be tragically extinct. This world must handle you gently, as you are a unique specimen.
